The Negrete Fund

The Negrete Fund is dedicated to the life of Nathaniel Negrete Wells. Its sole purpose and existence is to help Hispanic children graduate high school (where many of the drop out rates are over 50%) and to help those “survivors” who have over-come the odds, obtain scholarships and financial aid to gain entry to Colleges and Universities.

El fondo Negrete es un tributo a la vida de Nathaniel Negrete Wells. Existe solamente para ayudar a muchachos hispanos graduarse de la escuela secundaría (Algunas escuelas tienen mas de 50% que no se gradúan). Además, el fondo ayuda a los “sobrevivientes” que sí se han graduado a obtener becas para facilitar el acceso a la universidad.

Nathaniel Negrete Wells was the son of Randy & Lori Wells (CEO of AffordableAbogado) and loving brother to Jennifer and Benjamin. He lived the first 22 months of his life in a Mexican orphanage, Casa de Cuna, in Tijuana before the Wells family was lucky enough to find him and make him a part of their family. As is often the case with children that are institutionalized, Nathaniel had some health issues that would lead to developmental delays later in life, however, these limitations never held him back.
Nathaniel Negrete Wells era el hijo de Randy (el jefe de AffordableAbogado) y Lori Wells, y hermano querido de Jennifer y Benjamín. Vivió los primeros 22 meses de su vida en un orfanato, Casa de Cuna, en Tijuana hasta que la familia Wells tuviera la suerte de encontrarlo y hacerlo parte de su família. Como muchos casos en su lugar, el chiquito Nathaniel tenía problemas con su salud. Estos problemas le causarían defectos de su desarrollo físico mas tarde en la vida, pero nunca le dominaron. Nathaniel ninca se dio por vencido.
Throughout Nathaniel’s life, he was a person who embraced all those that came into his path, whether it was a classmate, or an 80 year old church-goer of his grandfather’s church. Nathaniel loved people, and most that knew him agree, if you met him once, he considered you a friend. He was engaging, charismatic, and just loved the world.
Durante toda su vida, Nathaniel era una persona que aceptaba a todos que se pusieran en su camino sin fijarse en la edad o nacionalidad de la persona. No importa que fuera un compañero de clase, un anciano de ochenta años asistiendo la iglesia de su abuelo, o un laboror de otro país, Nathaniel quería mucho a la gente, y todos que lo conocieron están de acuerdos, al conocer a alguien esa persona ya era amigo para él. Siendo un muchacho de descendencia mexicano pero criado por una família estadounidense, Nathaniel pudo ver al mundo por los ojos de distintas perspectivas. Por eso se llevaba tanto con la gente. Era un muchacho encantador que quería mucho la vida.

Although Nathaniel had hearing problems and an input/output sensory disorder that affected his ability to learn and retain information, he loved school. He spent the bulk of his elementary and junior high years in special pull-out programs to help him with reading and speech. However, what he lacked initially in academic skills, he made up for on the sports field. He began demonstrating his athletic gifts by the time he was in sixth grade, and he even started coaching third- and fourth-graders in basketball, passing on the skills he had learned.

A pesar de que tenía una condición de los oídos que le afectó su capacidad de aprender y retener información, le gustaba mucho la escuela. Pasaba la mayoría de sus años en la primeria y secundaria en programas especiales para ayudarle leer y con su capacidad de hablar. No obstante, lo que le faltaba en los académicos al principio lo compensaba en los deportes. Empezó a demostrar su talento atlético para el sexto grado. Hasta llegó a ser el entrenador de baloncesto para un grupo de chicos más jovenes, enseñandoles a ellos lo que ya había aprendido él.

In eighth grade, Nathaniel was mainstreamed and for the first time, began to think about his future and college. Many people that looked at him saw a Mexican kid with learning difficulties, and would have told him that college was not an option. He didn’t care. He knew that if he worked at school the same way he worked at sports, he could achieve what he wanted to. And in fact, he did. Nathaniel graduated from high school as scheduled in 2005, and even served as a graduation speaker on behalf of the senior class. Beyond his achievements on and off the field in high school, he also achieved his goal of college: he was accepted to Menlo College where he planned to study communications with the goal of obtaining a business degree.
En el octavo grado Nathaniel empezó a pensar en su futuro. Por la primera vez demostró ganas de seguir con sus estudios al nível universitario. Mucha gente lo veía como solamente un muchacho mexicano limitado por su condición sin capacidad de estudiar a tal nível. A él no le importó. Él sabía que si hacía un esfuerzo con sus estudios como lo hacía en los deportes podía lograr lo que sea. Y de hecho es lo que hizo. Nathaniel se graduó de la secundaria a tiempo en el año 2005 y hasta dio una presentación de parte de su clase entera durante la ceremonia. Aparte de sus logros en la cancha y en la clase, Nathaniel fue aceptado por Menlo College donde planeaba de estudiar las communicaciones con la meta de ser licenciado de negocios.
Tragically, Nathaniel was killed in a car accident shortly before he was to leave for college. In spite of this unexpected twist of fate, Nathaniel left behind so many lessons, one of which is that no matter what difficulties you might have to overcome, or what others may see when they look at you, if you have the will, there is always a way.

Tragicamente, Nathaniel se mató en un choque de carro en las vísperas de su carrera universitaria. A pesar de su imprevisto destino, Nathaniel dejó atrás tantas buenas lecciones. Una de ellas era que no importa qué dificultades que haya que apoderarse o cómo la gente te vea, si uno tiene las ganas, siempre hay manera.

The Negrete Fund is dedicated to finding other children like Nathaniel that have the desire, passion, and persistence to “beat the odds”, but just need a little help. The Negrete fund is funded by 2 % of every dollar that is generated by the Affordable Agogado web site and marketing system. It seeks local non-profit organizations that are dedicated to the objectives of this fund.

El Fondo Negrete se dedica a encontrar a muchachos con las ganas y la passión de la vida que tenía Nathaniel y ayudarlos apoderarse contra los obstáculos. Se paga por 2% de cada dólar que se gane AffordableAbogado. El fondo busca organizaciones locales que tengan las mismas objetivas para proveerles con los fondos.
